They:
–     Refine every barrel of oil produced globally
–     Produce the transport fuels that drive the global economy
–     Are essential to reduce emissions
–     Produce petrochemicals
–     Employ several engineers, technicians, finance, and admin folks
–     Stir up feelings of national pride
–     Can whip up strong emotions about their ownership
–     Are a politically sensitive topic

…or even for Canada’s refineries specifically?
–     Canada has 18 refineries
–     Ontario and Alberta have 10 of the 18 refineries
–     A total refining capacity of nearly 2 million bpd
–     60% of refining capacity is in the Eastern provinces
–     13 of the refineries are less than 80years old
–     The oldest refinery was started up 126 years ago and is in Ontario
